Privacy Policy

Career in Energy ("CIE", "we", "us") is a specialist upstream oil and gas recruitment business. This policy explains what personal data we collect through careerinenergy.com and the CIE app, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to candidates, employer contacts, and anyone else who uses the site or contacts us.

Information we collect

If you sign up as a candidate

Name, email address, phone number, date of birth, nationality and country of residence, your CV file and the text we extract from it, LinkedIn profile, discipline and years of experience, certifications and their expiry dates, work history and education, the regions and rotations you're willing to work, visa sponsorship needs, languages, target role and salary expectations, and your account password (stored securely, never in plain text, by our authentication provider).

If you contact us as an employer

Your name, email, company, and the details of the role or requirement you send us.

If you just browse the site

We don't run analytics or tracking scripts on careerinenergy.com today, so we don't collect browsing data beyond what's strictly needed to serve the page (standard web server logs kept by our hosting provider). See our Cookie Policy for detail.

How we use your information

• To create and run your candidate profile, and let you apply to roles.
• To assess how your profile matches a specific role you apply to.
• To introduce suitable candidates to our clients when a recruiter decides to submit your profile for a role — we tell you when this happens and to which client.
• To send you account, application, and onboarding-related emails.
• To respond to questions sent through our contact forms.
• To operate paid services you choose to buy (CV Audit, coaching) and process payment for them.
• To keep the service secure and meet our legal obligations.

AI-assisted screening

When you apply to a role, an AI model reads your CV and the role requirements and produces a match score, an explanation, and suggestions. It never rejects an application on its own — a recruiter reviews every assessment before any decision is made or any profile is sent to a client. The CV text involved in this process is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, solely to generate that assessment; see "Who we share your information with" below.

Who we share your information with

We share personal data with:

• Clients — when a recruiter decides to submit your profile for a specific role, relevant details from it go to that client. We tell you when and to whom.
• Supabase — our database, authentication, and file-storage provider, hosted in the EU. This is where your profile, CV file, and application data live.
• Anthropic — provider of the AI model used for CV screening and onboarding pre-fill, as described above.
• Brevo, via our workflow automation tool n8n — sends transactional emails (onboarding, application updates).
• Netlify — hosts the website and app.
• Stripe— processes payment if you buy a paid service (CV Audit, coaching). We don't see or store your card details ourselves.
• Google / LinkedIn — only if you choose to sign up or log in using one of those accounts, in which case that provider shares your name and email with us as part of that sign-in.

We don't sell your personal data, and we don't share it with anyone else without telling you.

How long we keep your information

We keep your data while your account is active. If you deactivate your account (via Account settings), it's a soft delete: your profile, applications, and related records stay so we can still act on anything already in progress, but you can't log back in. If you'd like your data permanently removed instead, email us at hello@careerinenergy.com.

Your rights

You can review and update most of your profile at any time from your profile page. You also have the right to ask us what data we hold about you, to correct it, to ask us to erase it, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to receive a copy of it in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email hello@careerinenergy.com.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and change the date above.
